Daily News Breakdown

Most Covered News Stories

  • It may seem surprising that the bombings in Texas dominated this month's headlines. It's not the most politically important story, on either a national or international scale. And it may not even be as dramatic of a tragedy as the Russian spy who was poisoned in Britain.

  • But after studying these news trends for months, I'm not shocked. Fox News has always pushed out tons of headlines about national tragedies and the way that the story ended allowed for breaking news stories to consistently come out during it's peak week.

  • Covering economic news isn't the main drive of either publication. So the influx of stories about the stock market and the struggles within them is especially significant.

  • I don't know if I ever specified what 'police shooting' represents as a category. It isn't about a specific incident as much as every headline about officers that were shot in the line of duty or committed bad shootings. A sheriff's deputy in Indiana, a standoff in California, and the Australian woman shot in Minneapolis all fall into this category.

  • Look out for the ebb and flow of the bottom rung of stories here. The Cambridge Analytica scandal and the tariff war with China will both continue as trends into the next month. Meanwhile, 'helicopter crash' will be replaced with the next series of vehicular tragedies.
